Hey lover, prancing and preening Dancing and dreaming Chanting and screaming Warm mother, tearing us apart Dragging me so far To save my heart Got this ticket to nowhere Not too sure if I'm coming back No one around can argue That you should cut me some slack 'Cause I've been running and hiding Whispering and crying for you 'Cause broken is broken So here is my token of you Slowly, you're suffocating me No chance of breaking free Don't make beg and plead In time, this is what you will find In this whole pantomime, you leave it all behind

Hey you, on your own Isn't there someone you could phone? Hey you, feeling down There's got to be something to kill that frown Hey you, crying inside Such a lonely feeling you shouldn't hide Hey you, watching the clouds There are not enough of us around Hope is all we have when our friend go home Some of us get lonely when we're on our own Shut the blinds and pray for a helping hand Through this frightful silence, just understand Hey you, up on the roof Believe in second chances, and I'm the proof Hey you, with noose in hand There is someone out there who understands Hey you, so afraid Don't let all your fears become your cage Hey you, chasing the sun Just so that you know, you're not the only one Hope is all we have when our friend go home Some of us get lonely when we're on our own Shut the blinds and pray for a helping hand Through this frightful silence, just understand

Fool's Gold 05:18
And no, I never needed a credit card To talk to a woman before My pockets emptying at a rate of knots Just to satisfy you It seems the world has gone insane Everyone here all plays this game Getting all the green that you can find I'm so glad I'm colourblind And if you want more, murder and lie Kill all the people and watch as they die Nothing will ever change at all Will we continue to fall? All gold is fool's gold to me, and I can see People all lie and cheat and steal, and nobody's real All gold is fool's gold to me, and you will see Lying and cheating and stealing, and no one is feeling Prepare yourself for a system failure, 'cause Nothing this stupid was meant to survive Everybody's running in circles, and Nobody just lives out their lives Falling down a deeper and deeper hole Just because you're too proud to crawl And everybody wants to get somewhere But they don't even know where they are And if you want more, embezzle and whore Make some decisions, don't care what they're for And at this point will we continue to change, or Will we continue to fall? All gold is fool's gold to me, and I can see People all lie and cheat and steal, and nobody's real All gold is fool's gold to me, and you will see Lying and cheating and stealing, and no one is feeling Gotta get some money, don't really care how Gotta get some money, and then I'm breaking out All gold is fool's gold to me, and I can see People all lie and cheat and steal, and nobody's real All gold is fool's gold to me, and you will see Lying and cheating and stealing, and no one is feeling

You're somewhere in this dark place I can hear you breathing This heart's beating in both your hands As I sing You make feel much stronger Much weaker at the same time You are my North star, now My whole life's for you Sometimes a little rough edges Make things interesting Sometimes it feels a little like I'm in a haze, signalling to you Where's your heart gone? Has your heart gone baby? Missing you, but you're so But you're oh so near me Oh, I feel empty, I Feel emptied inside No, no more tears to No more tear to cry Why do you want to choose Being alone now and being lonely later? So few chances in life to find the ones Who will truly care I see so many things inside of you That you try to hide Choose love and happiness with Me and I could help you fly We're going nowhere Where's your heart gone? Has your heart gone baby? Missing you, but you're so But you're oh so near me Oh, I feel empty, I Feel emptied inside No, no more tears to No more tear to cry

Silent Again 04:15
There must be some other way Here comes the silence, washing Over everything Turn off the light, come back to bed There are evils in my head which wait for No one to break free Free me Wide-eyed and bushy tailed, until The tides have turned Now it's time to get what we have earned Turn it into a contest to see Who's more forlorn No matter what you say, I miss you more Silence overwhelms me, only Loneliness abound Here we go again Bright light in the dark sky Won't you carry me away? This silence is killing me Silence overwhelms me, only Loneliness abound Here we go again Bright light in the dark sky Won't you carry me away? Feeling lonely (here we go again) Feeling alone (here we go again) Silence overwhelms me, only Loneliness abound Here we go again Bright light in the dark sky Won't you carry me away?

about

This album was started in late 2008 and completed in early 2009.

On this album I'd actually come up with a good 30 or so tracks, then whittled it down to the ones that were a reasonable length and had at least some sense of cohesion to one another. Then I added on Signals Through the Mist and Silent Again, which were created shortly after work on Crucible of Ideologies was originally concluded.

I've also included two bonus instrumental tracks that for some reason or another I never ended up recording the vocals for, but sounded pretty cool anyway. There is so much more from this era that I haven't released, but I'm just not confident enough with the work to release it yet. Perhaps eventually I will.

There was a lot more experimentation with production values on this album. I didn't have a clue what I was doing yet (still not sure if I do), but things definitely sound a lot more polished than previous works. Being careful not to flood the mix with bass is the lesson I took away with me from working on this album.

In terms of lyrics and ideas represented throughout this album, a lot of the stuff I wrote from this time was under the influence of depression and anxiety, with much logistical adversity also being endured in my life. It was a time of growth and struggle for me in equal measures. Not sure I agree with everything I said back then, but it's still worth sharing now.
